We have completed the final quarter of our twelve month Innovate UK SMART grant [INTENSE]. In this time we finished the manufacturing and assembly, as well as testing seven variants of embedded temperature sensor tags. We also delivered the first shipment for our commercial partner’s bench testing.
We are really pleased with the our test results. Our tags work in air, in rubber, within representative tyre test blocks, and they read RFID and temperature as anticipated from within a representative tyre sample block, which includes the full complement of six belts, ply – and a lot of rubber.
We achieved a fantastic read range in all three simulated OTR (Off the Road) tyre positions for the UHF Far Field tag. This has an ovoid design that looks very much like a dragon with its wings folded up, giving it the name the “Dragon Tag”.
The Near Field variants also produced acceptable ranges in testing.
Now we look forward to continuing this project with our commercial partner!
