Silent Sensors in conjunction with Dycotec Materials Limited completed a small grant project from January to June 2021, the objective was to develop and deploy a sulphur barrier layer to protect a silver ink RFID antennae on a flexible rubber tag from sulphur released during the tyre vulcanisation process.
Using a bespoke formulation, Silent Sensors was able to produce, using additive manufacturing, RFID tags on both rubbers and elastomers with printed silver inks that were able to survive the curing process with excellent performance. These tags are now being tested by a leading tyre manufacturer for use in passenger and commercial vehicles.
